Obituary for Daisy Popovic

MISSOULA - Daisy "Bubi" Popovic of Missoula died of natural causes on January. 14, 2009, at Beehive Homes at the age of 93.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., on Feb. 13, 1915, to Darinka Yocich and Samuel Petrin. She lived most of her life in that area, marrying Steven Lemaich in June 1935. She became widowed following his death in 1952. She also lived in Sacramento, Calif., and Santa Monica, Calif., where she worked as a store clerk. Later she lived in Tennessee and Indiana with her daughters before moving to Missoula in 1995.

The most important thing in her life was her family and spending time with them. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She most recently enjoyed a special Thanksgiving dinner with two of her great-grandchildren and four of her grandchildren present, three of whom came from out of state. In recent years, she has enjoyed attending services at the University Congregational Church, especially appreciating receiving communion and the beautiful music provided there. At church, she met her friend Wanda and they enjoyed many visits and games of Yahtzee together.

Daisy also enjoyed reading until the recent year when she would say she’d like to read, but would usually fall asleep instead. She loved the staff at Beehive, although she could challenge their patience at times. They enjoyed her sense of humor and took wonderful care of her under the leadership of Kim.

Survivors include her daughters and their families, Shirley Wickliffe of Cordova, Tenn., and Darlene Jurkowski of Schererville, Ind.; her son Sam Lemaich (Marilyn) of Missoula; eight grandchildren, Danielia (Ari) Kotler, Noah Lemaich, Kathy (Michael) Armstrong, Mark Pentek, Steven (Debra) Wickliffe, Debra Saffell, Lisa Parks and Erin Keffeler; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Jordan and Dylan Wickliffe, Samantha and Steven Armstrong, Ashley Saffell and William and Nathan Keffeler.

She will be missed and remembered with love. A service to celebrate her life will be held in the spring.
