Curtis Schoening

September 29, 1950 — September 12, 2020

Curtis Clyde Schoening, age 69, of Missoula, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020, while fishing with his youngest granddaughter at Frenchtown Pond.

Curt was born, September 29th, 1950, in Renville, MN, to Dallas and Lorraine Schoening. At the young age of 2, the family headed West to Montana.

Curt spent his childhood in Missoula, Frenchtown, and the family eventually moved to their forever home up Nine Mile.

As a teen, Curt was an accomplished athlete, holding records in track and field, basketball, and football at Frenchtown High School.

Curt started working for the Milwaukee Railroad soon after high school, and then Montana Rail Link in 1987. He loved his career and was well respected by his coworkers, who he also considered friends.

In 1973, Curt was blessed with a daughter, the first light of his life, Jennifer Dayley. Jennifer gave Curt the gift of three grandchildren, Wyatt, LowGun, and Addie. Although a state away, he was so proud, always talking about them, checking in on them, and supporting each of them as only Grandpa can.

In 1980, he met his “Desert Blossom”, Lois Mitzner, and her daughter, Michelle. Lois and Curt would be celebrating their 40th Anniversary together on September 29th. Michelle was adopted by Curt after he and Lois married in 1990. He was never a stepfather, always a Daddy.

In 2014, shortly after retirement, Michelle had a daughter, Maya, who was his little buddy, and fishing partner.

A family conducted memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m., on Friday, September 18, 2020, at the Frenchtown Pond. Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home.
