Colin Patrick , 36, son of Marilyn and Bill McKnight of Hamilton, passed away on June 11 from a camping accident at the Blackfoot River's Harry Morgan Fishing Access in Powell County, Montana.
Colin was born on August 23, 1978 in Hamilton, Ohio. He attended Fairfield and Sacred Heart Schools and graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1997. He received a BSS degree in Social Psychology from Ohio University in 2001. After college, he worked for Americorps and Newport City Schools. He worked at the Esther B. Clark School for developmentally delayed children in California before moving to and adopting the state of Montana. In Missoula, he worked as a Senior Therapeutic Youth Care Worker with Youth Homes and served as their state licensing coordinator. Colin also worked part-time for REI where his love of nature was a plus.
Colin possessed a deep passion and extraordinary talent for music. He was an exceptional guitarist, singer, and songwriter, who played with several bands beginning in high school and throughout his years in Missoula. He loved camping, fishing, backpacking, canoeing, biking, snowshoeing and skiing in the mountains and streams of Montana, finding joy and solace in nature.
Besides his parents, he leaves his sister Kelly, brother-in-law Chad, nephew Drew and niece Brooke Oberholtzer of Glenview, Illinois and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 17th, 2015 at 11a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 400 Nilles Rd. in Fairfield, Ohio with family visitation beginning at 9 a.m. In lieu of material gifts, consider a donation in Colin's name to Youth Homes-Talbot Home for Girls, P.O.
