Sadly our loving mother, grandma and wife lost her courageous battle with COPD in her sleep on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015. Kay was born Dec. 6, 1948, in Troy, Ohio, to William and Mary Fellers. She started ice skating at an early age and it became a lifelong interest culminating in becoming the first ice skating judge in Missoula.
Kay graduated from Troy High School in 1967. In 1969 she met Richard Spencer, through her cousin, Denny Dohme, and a long distance romance grew and finally culminated in their marriage in September of 1970. Out of this union came her proudest achievements; her two sons, Mike and Randy Spencer. Kay was a stay at home mom, while her husband pursued a career in the Postal Service. They were married in Las Vegas where both sons were born. Rick's career took them to Palm Springs, California, and then to Missoula where they finally stayed.
Kay struggled with four operations for a herniated discs in her back and then COPD. In spite of her health issues, she was involved with her sons and her cherished grandchildren. She continued to judge ice skating and never met a stray animal she did not love. Kay had several dogs and cats and as she travels over the Rainbow Bridge she is embracing Duchess Monte, and Duke. Kay with her husband was a longtime member of Griz Nation and followed the football team to most home games and several road trips to Flagstaff, Pocatello and Portland.
Kay is survived by her sister, Mary Kathleen (Bill) Slack; her husband, Richard E. Spencer; sons, Michael J. (Tiffany) Spencer and Randall W. Spencer; grandchildren, Savon and Savonnah Clark Gardiner, Brandon Spencer, Kaydence Fastabend, Gunner Fastabend and Kaytlyn Spencer who was named for her.
Services will be held at the United Church of Christ on Monday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m. with a reception at the Lolo LDS Church. We will miss you, Mom and Grandma, and hope you now have vision in both eyes and strength to knit and to play in heaven with those who have preceded you.
Kay was preceded in death by her beloved mother and father, William and Mary Fellers, and numerous aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Kay's honor to the Missoula Figure Skating Club, P.O. Box 9195, Missoula, MT. 59807. Garden City Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
