Charles Benjamin Waugh, known as "Chuck" to some family and "Ace" to friends, died on August 2, 2024 from Multiple Systems Atrophy, which he had struggled with for the last six years.
Charles was born November 29, 1953, the fourth son of Helen Gawronski Waugh and Floyd Waugh, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He attended a one-room school for elementary K-8th grade, then Anchor Bay High School, University of Michigan and MIT with a Structural Engineering degree.
Charles moved from Michigan to San Francisco, then to Tacoma, WA and then settled in Bellingham, WA where he lived for over thirty years.
Charles married Carol Fitterer in 1982 and had a daughter, Sarah (TL) in1986 and son, David in 1989. Charles and Carol divorced in 2005.
Charles loved hiking and backpacking and did some sections of the Pacific Crest Trail. He was a proud supporter of Michigan Wolverines sports. He also enjoyed singing with the community Kushan Chorus in Bellingham.
Charles worked as a structural engineer for many years in Bellingham and helped on multiple projects in the NorthWest.
Charles married Linda Kristensen Prince in 2012 in Bellingham. They enjoyed exploring the area, walking the trails and traveling to Vancouver, BC, Montana, Yosemite and Hawaii. In 2020 they moved to Linda's home state of Montana to be near her family.
Charles was a brilliant man, always learning and seeking answers, He tried harder than most people to understand human relationships and social interactions, something that didn't come easy to him. He loved nature and his pets. His disease took away so much from him, but he remained kind and patient to all who cared for him.
Charles is survived by wife, Linda and her family, daughter, Sarah (TL), Denver, son, David, Bellingham, brothers, Raymond Waugh (Marcia), CA, Jim Waugh, MI, John Waugh (Linda), AZ, numerous cousins, and his best friends, Keith Kurko and Bob Dister.
