Our dad loved people and their stories. He enjoyed well-written, interesting obituaries about people and their lives. We hope he'll enjoy reading about his.
A good man died this week, Monday, Feb. 22, 2016. Charles Ernest Valach was born May 14, 1927, in Lewistown to John and Anna Hruska Valach. He was one of eight children raised in a Czech family full of life and love. He led the band at Fergus County High School and often shared fond memories of growing up on Rural Route 2 near Lewistown with his brothers and sisters. Chuck was raised with lots of love, hard work, Czech songs and influences, family gatherings, and good times.
After high school graduation in 1945, Chuck proudly served in the U.S. Navy during and following World War II. Completing his service, he attended Montana State College earning a degree in accounting. 1950 took him to Missoula for work and on Easter Sunday, March 25, 1951, he married Alvera Elizabeth Anderson of Bozeman.
Chuck worked hard as an accountant for several Missoula area construction and supply businesses. In 1953 he went to work for a local forest products company. This company merged with others through the years and he eventually retired from the Timberlands Division of Champion International Corporation in 1986.
Throughout his life, Chuck was a proud Montana Grizzly fan, especially the Lady Griz. He loved big band music, jazz, a good steak, kolache, chocolate and all things Czech. He enjoyed membership and serving a number of civic, professional and fraternal organizations. Chuck was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Loved ones include his wife, Alvera of Missoula; children, Tom Valach and Jason Smith of Cathedral City, California, Tim and Joyce Valach Murphy of Whitefish, and John and Nancy ValachEiler of Juneau, Alaska; grandchildren, Weston Eiler and Luke Eiler of Juneau and Hayley Murphy of Bend, Oregon. Loved ones also include brothers, Frank Valach, Ernie Valach and Tony Valach; sister Helen Valach Craig; and many loved extended family members and friends.
His parents, brothers Jim Valach and John Valach, sister Betty Christoff, and nephew Vernon Valach preceded him in death.
Sleep in heavenly peace, Dad. We love you.
Cremation has taken place and at Chuck's request no services have been planned. Memorials in his honor many be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 830 South Ave. W., Missoula, MT 59801.
