Charlie Stucky, 86, of Missoula, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015, at St. Patrick Hospital of natural causes.
He was born in Irvington, New Jersey, where he went to school and excelled at football and baseball. He graduated early to join the Marine Corps and fought in World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He returned home to marry Irmgard Lenhard, move to Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, and have two children, Robert and Patricia. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and president of the Rescue Squad.
After battling alcoholism for many years, he became sober and dedicated his life to helping others overcome addiction. He went back to school to become a LCADC, CSW and CCJS, and eventually became the executive director of Honesty House, the rehab center where he was a patient and became sober himself. He helped everyone from New Yorki Giants football players to stockbrokers, blue-collar workers, housewives, firemen and policemen. He turned away no one.
Upon retiring, he moved to Missoula to be with his son, Bob, where he spent many a Sunday afternoon in front of the fireplace watching his beloved New York Giants with family and friends. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, hunting, and just spending time in the woods or on the beach. He mostly enjoyed helping others get their lives back on track.
Charlie is survived by his son, Bob; and daughter, Patti.
Funeral services to be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, March 20, at 10 a.m.
