August 12, 1930 – June 5, 2-17
This wonderful, loving man-husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend to all, pet lover to Holly, his golden retriever and Emma, his cat, went to square dance again with his love and life-long soulmate, Jackquelyn Worthen Salter.
He has shared his warm loving heart and soul with many throughout his life. He served honorably in the US Navy, worked for Johnson Flying Services and later Minuteman Aviation, volunteered with Missoula Rural Fire Department at Station 1 for 20 plus years, worked for Western Federal Savings and Loan, then retired, and later returned to the bank for a second term of employment. He also enjoyed serving as a bus aide for Beach Transportation.
He had a great love for his wife, children and grandchildren; adopted or not, he loved us all the same. He also enjoyed anything to do with rodeo, bull riding and team roping.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Jackquelyn Worthen Salter, a son Clifton (Cliff) Salter, parents Charles and Louise (Hart) Salter, father and mother-in-law Clifton & Gladys (Phillips) Worthen, Brother Art Salter, Sister Janet Salter Adam, Brothers-in-law Bob Worthen, Bud Miller and Frenchie (Lyn) Adam and sister-in-law Iris Worthen McDonald.
He leaves behind his loving family including son Wesley Salter (wife Laddawan) of Las Vegas, NV; son Joe Salter (partner Debbie) of Missoula; daughter Pam Salter of Clinton; sister Charlene Salter Miller of Missoula; his favorite and very special young lady, his caregiver, Mikaela Hayes; golden retriever Holly, cat Emma; grandfur babies, Nova, Lizzy and Gremlin; 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
This man loved all and hated no one and was always willing to help family and friends. He would strike up conversations with total strangers leaving said strangers feeling better about life and glad to have met him.
Charles, we will miss you and love you to the end of the earth and beyond. Happy trails to you, till we meet again. PS Dad, I love you!
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers you share your funny (or not so funny) stories with us about Dad. If you really feel the need, please make any memorial donations to help others, such as the Montana V.A. Home or the Missoula Humane Society (since he had a great love for animals of all kinds, except snakes) or a charity of your choice.
Graveside Services with military honors will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 10am at the Missoula Cemetery. A potluck reception will be at the family home at 2pm. Condolences for the family may be sent to www.gardencityfh.com
