Obituary for Chance Geery

MILLTOWN – Chance James Geery, 18, of Milltown, was taken suddenly on Monday, April 1, 2013.

Chance was born on May 30, 1994, in Missoula to loving parents Todd Geery, 52, and Teresa Burch-Geery, 47. Chance was everything to Todd. His hero. Proud, beyond words, of his handsome son. His character, accomplishments, his huge potential and promising future. Chance shared his mother's passion for the outdoors, camping and long walks with the dogs. A mother-son bond so strong only the two of them really understood the depth and value of it. Teresa worked tirelessly to make sure her little big man would grow up to be a strong, courageous gentleman.

Chance also had a very special bond with his grandfather Colin. He could talk to his grandpa about anything. Grandpa was his problem-solver, his confidant, his rock. Chance was very protective of his little brother Chalan, 13. He guided him and instilled the values of right and wrong. He quietly and proudly looked up to his little brother's intelligence and academic achievements. They were the kind of brothers who could spend the entire day together without ever needing to utter a word. Their bond transcended simple communication. Chalan looked up to his big brother as well. His athletic prowess was an inspiration to Chalan, who wanted to follow in his brother's footsteps and play football. Chance met the love of his life at age 14. Gabrielle Rosier was to be his bride. With their young lives just beginning, they had a bright and responsible future planned. High school cap and gown ready, Junior Police Academy Application process started and wedding plans to organize. His big dream was to attend the University of Montana to study criminal justice and play defensive end for the Grizzlies football team.

Honorary pallbearers include "The Bonner boys," Luke Bewley, Taylor Hill, Chase Buche, Mike Hilliard, Lane Houston, Austin Woods, Gavin Anschuetz, Dillon Clark, Skyler Nowlen, Tristen Firth and Devin Gibson.

Chance is survived by his father, Todd Geery of Milltown; mother, Teresa Burch-Geery of Milltown; brother, Chalan Geery of Milltown; the love of his life, Gabrielle Rosier of Milltown; grandmother, Nancy Rex of Stevensville; grandparents, Janice and James Burch of Idaho; uncles, William, John and Jim Burch, all of Idaho, and Mike Baars of Utah; aunt, Shouanna Johnson of Idaho; and special family friends, Trina Dieruf-Dimmitt and Alex Bown. He was preceded in death by grandfather, Colin Geery; and grandfather, Calvin Rex.

Services will be held Friday, April 5, at noon at Washington-Grizzly Stadium on the University of Montana campus in Missoula. South gates will open at 11 a.m. A potluck reception will be held at Bonner School at 4 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in Chance's honor, and donations can be made at any Wells Fargo branch.
