Cecil G. Foster, 90, of Superior, Montana and Henderson, Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at home in Superior, Montana, of natural causes.
He was born on August 30, 1925 in Porter Township, Midland, Michigan to Christian Everett Foster and Alma Cecile Tippin. His mother passed away when he was six years old and he lived most of his growing up years on various farms with his grandparents. He graduated from Midland High School where he ran track and field at school and worked part-time at a gas station and at the local bowling alley setting pins. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and began his distinguished military career. He attended Knox College in Illinois.
While attending Pre-flight School in San Antonio, Texas he took his first ride on an elevator and met his future wife, Margaret Mary Frazar. They were married on January 13, 1945 in San Antonio .
He served a distinguished military career spanning 31 years, flew fighter combat missions in the Korean and Viet Nam Wars and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He was the recipient of many awards and commendations including the Congressional Gold Medal, Purple Heart and two Silver Stars. He was also the 23rd Jet Ace in the Korean War.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and gardening.
A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he cherished his five sons, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-children. He was very active in his local churches and loved scripture study and gospel hymns.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret, Superior; his five sons and their families, Cecil Jr. (Vicki), Murphy, TX, Bryan (Robi) St. Regis, MT, Rodney (Bryan) Anaheim, CA, Ronald (Margie) Hudsonville, MI, and David (Lynda) Florence, OR; two sisters, Frances Syckle, Midland, MI and Beulah Niki Hoyle, Midland, MI. He also is survived by 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 11 at 2:00 pm at Community Bible Church, 401 Main Street, St Regis, MT. The family has requested donations to the Community Bible Church in lieu of flowers.
