Bruce Norman Thisted

Bruce Norman Thisted, 87, of Missoula, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014.
Bruce was born on March 23, 1927, in Great Falls, Montana, to Fred and Claudia Thisted. The family ranched near Birch Creek outside of Browning, and then the Raynesford area. After the drought of the 1930s the family moved permanently to the Ninemile Valley in 1938.
Bruce attended school at Alberton and, after his high school graduation in 1945, joined the Army. But the war was soon over and he returned from boot camp to attend Kinman Business College in Spokane, Washington. Upon graduation Bruce began work as an accountant at Missoula Ready Mix. Several years later he was called back to the family ranch on Ninemile where he where he lived and worked until his retirement in 1992.
In December of 2011 Bruce, and his brother Ralph Thisted, were honored to receive the first Missoula County Rural Initiatives Land Stewardship Award in recognition of their years of ranching and caring for the land.
Bruce is survived by his sister Ruth Chandler and his brother Ralph Thisted; his nephews Bill Chandler and Joe Chandler, his niece, Claudia Dirkes and great nephew and niece, Ryan and Linsey Dirkes.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Lloyd Allen.
