– Brendan Jon Grimestad, 46, of Missoula, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, in the Lolo National Forest. He was born in Minot, North Dakota, on Jan. 2, 1969, to Virginia and Garry Grimestad. At age two he moved with his family to Missoula. He attended grade school in Missoula and graduated from Sentinel High School and the University of Montana. Brendan enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1987 and proudly served in the U.S. and Germany. He was called back to active duty for Desert Storm, and later served in the Army Reserves until 1997. Brendan was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, a martial arts enthusiast, and a talented writer.
Brendan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Eileen and Lawrence Grimestad; his maternal grandfather, Les Kinden; step-grandfather Leo Vorderbruggen and by his uncle Jim Kinden and aunt Kathy.
He is survived by his parents, Garry and Virginia of Missoula; his grandmother, Lorraine Vorderbruggen of New Town, North Dakota; his sister Marcia (Steve) Hopingardner of Yorktown, Virginia; niece Kaitlin Hopingardner and her daughter Elena of Missoula; nephew Joshua Hopingardner of Yorktown; and his aunts Gayle Schaeffer and Diane Siira, uncle Daniel Kinden (Rachel), cousins, and close friends.
A private family service will take place this summer in North Dakota. Garden City Funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements.
