Bob Griffin MD

The Bitterroot Valley always called to Bob Griffin. On Monday, April 14, 2014, Bob went home to the valley.

He was born on March 5, 1933, in Missoula and raised in Stevensville. Bob attended the University of Montana and immediately struck out for Oregon and medical school. After graduating from medical school, Bob joined the Air Force and completed his general surgery residency in San Antonio. After 11 years in the Air Force and a one-year tour in Vietnam, Maj. Griffin said that's enough and it's time to go home to Montana. In 1967, Bob put out his shingle in Missoula and 23 years later he wrapped up a very satisfying and successful career as a general surgeon. Bob enjoyed a tremendous retirement filled with travels around the world. A map, "Travels of Robert Griffin," is a sea of colored pins marking all of the great visits and adventures. Bob had a love of history and enjoyed reading in great detail about the far-flung places he would visit. Many great days were spent roaring up the Bitterroot River in the jet boat and blasting through the mountains on snowmobiles. There was serious hootin' and lots of laughin'.

Our dad had a great love for his family and friends. His hard work ethic, drive and determination were an inspiration to all who knew him. We are grateful for the tremendous life we shared with our dad. He will be missed, but will always be in our hearts.

The family will hold a private service to celebrate Dad's life. In Bob's memory, please take a moment when you are "down the valley" and connect with Bob, who will always be up on St. Mary Peak.

A heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Missoula and the staff at Hillside Manor for helping us all with Dad's end of life.

Dad's travels will continue and his ashes will be placed in the many places he loved around the world
