Obituary for Betty June Stacy

Betty June Stacy passed away quietly Sunday, March 9, 2014, due to natural causes. She was born June 17, 1924, in Placid Lake to Irvine P. and Elta Sperry.

She was married to Jack A. Stacy for 54 years. Jack preceded her in death in 1994. As a couple they enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, fiddle and accordion jams, and dancing. They raised their five children together. June did not work outside the home, but did run a day care in her home or several years.

She enjoyed crafts, sewing for her grandchildren and gardening. June always had a yard full of beautiful flowers and a full vegetable garden. She was happiest when she was outdoors, walking in the woods, and especially picking huckleberries every chance she got. She was an avid reader who was passionate about education.

Her grade school education was in the one-room Placid Lake school. After her children were grown, she completed the requirements for the GED. For many years, she volunteered at Lewis and Clark Elementary School and was known as "Grandma June" to the children she worked with. June was also known for her wonderful pies and homemade cinnamon rolls.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Taylor Stacy; eight sisters, Myrtle Sperry, Leah Hamma, Joyce Matthew, Elta Townsend, Norma Jean Sperry, Dorothy Holmes, Mildred Fisher and Faye Butts; and two brothers, Kenneth Sperry and Gene Sperry.

She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth (Darryl) Kinion, Loretta (George) Day and Christine (Craig) Kopet; two sons, Alan (Renee) Stacy and Wade (Julie) Stacy; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial gifts in June's name may be made to Lewis and Clark Elementary School in Missoula or the organization of your choice. Cremation has taken place. A private family celebration of June's life will be held at a later date.
