Betty Jo Gyles

MISSOULA – Betty Jo Gyles, 78 , passed away at home of natural causes in the early morning hours on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013.

Betty was born on May 27, 1934, in Hurlwood, Texas, to Fred and Ruth Hale.

On April 5, 1956, she married her sweetheart of 56 years, Dale Ross Gyles. They settled in Missoula and raised three sons.

Besides caring for her grandchildren, Betty loved her pets and going for walks. She loved gardening, tending to her flower beds, playing games with friends and family, and doing all sorts of crafts. She was an accomplished seamstress and made beautiful clothes for her grandchildren and her daughter-in- law. One of Betty's favorite pastimes was crocheting. She made beautiful table cloths and dollies which will be cherished for years to come.

Betty involved herself in Missoula County 4-H for several years while her boys were growing up.

Being a former basketball player herself in high school, Betty loved to watch and listen to ladies basketball games and was an avid Lady Griz follower.

She was a loving nana to her grandchildren and though her time with her was short, she adored her 1-year-old great-granddaughter Mazzy.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Fred; mother Ruth; sister Lois; brother Fred Jr.(Sonny) and her son, Dale Jr.

She is survived by her husband Dale; son Keith and daughter-in-law Robin; son Joe; three grandchildren, Miranda Tee, Justin Gyles, and Melinda Gyles, and one great-granddaughter, Mazzy Marble.

Betty's memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Missoula Valley Church located at 1528 S. Higgins Ave. Following the services a pot luck supper will be served at the church.
