Bette Luverne Moore, native Spokane resident, was received by her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 4:30 in the afternoon. She lived in Spokane her entire life until her 91st birthday when she moved to Stevensville, Montana with her daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Vern Pomeroy. Failing health in recent years made it too difficult for Bette to continue her independent lifestyle she had so well adjusted to following the loss of her beloved husband, John R. Moore, in March of 2004.
Bette Luverne Moore was born in Spokane, Washington, May 18, 1922, the only child to join the family of Vern Metcalf Fisk and Sadie Fae (Hill) Fisk. Both parents were natives of eastern Washington.
Bette attended local public grade schools, Lewis & Clark High School (class of 1940) and continued her education at WSC, now WSU in Pullman, WA where she pledged Delta Delta Delta sorority. Interesting stories were conveyed by Bette over the years of her time spent there and what a wonderful experience she and her sisters enjoyed.
Bette met and married her lifetime partner and soul mate, WWII veteran John Robert Moore on May 24, 1947 at the Liberty Park Methodist Church in Spokane, Washington. They were blessed to share 57 years together that included a glorious 50th anniversary celebration at their church and much anticipated Hawaiian adventure with several of their dearest friends.
Bette was very active in the women's organizations in her church and touched many lives sharing her wisdom and guidance. Many remember her fondly and with great affection for her counsel and guidance. Both Bette and her late husband John enjoyed their core of close friends who frequently traveled together, enjoyed card games and dining out together. All who knew Bette, knew her as "An elegant and classy Lady!" And her family, they personified her love extended to all.
Less than one month following her 92nd birthday, Bette went to meet her Lord and her husband John. She was lovingly carried for at The Village Health Care Center in Missoula, Montana from late April 2014 until her death on June 13th. Special thanks to those who shared in Bette's care and comfort in her final days.
Bette is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael John (Debbie) Moore of Spokane, Washington, her daughter and son-in-law Shelley Faye (Vern) Pomeroy of Stevensville, Montana, her grandsons Jason Michael Sorini of Missoula, Montana, Jeffery Alan Moore and Peter Jonathan Moore of Spokane, Washington and her granddaughter Brenda Jean Moore and step-granddaughter Nichole Robinson of Spokane, Washington, as well as numerous great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother who's presence will be greatly missed by the family left behind.
Throughout her lifetime, Bette was surrounded by scores of dear friends and fellow parishioners of the church she and John helped to build, Community Bible Chapel, later to become Mt. Spokane Church. That church and her family now welcome all to join in celebrating her abundant life memories on June 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Spokane Church located at 6311 E. Mount Spokane Park Road. Arrangements and officiating will be under the direction of Pastor Bob Smith. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Mt. Spokane Church.
