Bette C. Huffman Brunson
Bette Johnson, age 95, went home to the Lord on June 4. She was born to Emil and Gretchen (Abrams) Johnson January 4, 1921 at Fort Benton, Mt. She grew up on the family homestead north of Fort Benton and attended the Gilstrap School and graduated from Fort Benton High in 1939. She attended college for two years in California returning to Montana upon the death of her mother. She married Russell Huffman January 5, 1943. After his discharge from the Army Air Corps, they settled on the family farm north of Fort Benton raising their two children, Linda and Brad. After Russell’s death in 1960, Bette moved into Fort Benton and worked for Dr. Welty. In 1966, she moved to Missoula to return to college, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics. During this time, she met and married Dr. Royal Brunson and continued to reside in Missoula. Bette enjoyed traveling to many different countries, spending time in her flower gardens and being with her family. She was a 68 year member of Bethany Chapter Order of Eastern Star and volunteered for many years at Community Hospital in Missoula. Royal passed away in 1999.
She was proceeded in death by her mother and father, her brothers Emil Jr. and Leonard, and by both her husbands. She is survived by a daughter, Linda (Jim) Daugherty, son Brad (Connie) Huffman, her grandchildren, Damon (Michele) Kegel, Jeff (Monica) Huffman and Dawn (Craig) Olivo, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Any memorials may be sent to a charity of choice. Graveside services will be held at the Manchester Cemetery on June 13, 2016 at 2 p.m. Condolences for the family may be left at gardencityfh.com
