Obituary for Benjamin F. "Ben" Flaig

MISSOULA - Benjamin Frederick Flaig, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8,
2013 at The Springs Senior Living Center.

Ben was born to Emanuel and Christina Flaig on October 2, 1921 in Fredonia, ND; the fifth of seven children. On October 24, 1948 he married Verna Betty Ruff of Lehr, ND and their union produced three children; Ben Flaig (Sue) of Kalispell, Bryan Flaig (Kerri) of Missoula, and Cindy Breckenridge (Steve) of Missoula, together with eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren thus far.

Ben was a veteran of World War II and grocer by profession, having spent most of his career employed by Buttrey Foods, Inc. He was very detail oriented and took great pride in all
work well done - whether it be managing a store or mowing a lawn.

Upon retirement in 1984, Ben and Verna enjoyed many summers at their Flathead Lake cabin (i.e. "the pond") and made many trips to visit relatives in North Dakota (i.e. ''the old country"), but more often entertained family and friends at their Missoula home. His other hobbies over the years included various outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, and playing golf with fellow old timers in the "Geritol League" at Highlands Golf Club. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Ervin and Emanuel, sisters; Anna, Florence, and, Ruth, and
spouse; Verna, but is survived by a sister; Mabel, as well as, his children and extended
family. Dad was an honorable man, a devoted husband, and loving father who will be
deeply missed.

Arrangements are being handled by Sunset Memorial Crematory Cemetery & Funeral Home, with services to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Partners in Home Care who did an excellent job of helping coordinate various medical and hospice resources during his final days. We also wish to thank the entire staff at Footsteps Memory Care Unit for their personal assistance to Ben over the past nine months. May he rest in peace.
