Bart Starr

Bart Starr, 73, of Huson, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at daybreak, at St. Patrick Hospital due to complications of cancer.

Bart was born "Robert Lee Starr" to Lawrence and Elsie Starr on Aug. 19, 1940, in Orange County, Calif. He grew up in Long Beach, Calif., and spent most of his adult years residing among the many mountain communities of California – from Lake Tahoe and Shasta Lake in Northern California to the Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead communities of Southern California. He fell in love with Montana and moved to his final residence in the Ninemile Valley of Huson in the fall of 2001.

Bart served in the Navy shipyards of Maryland and worked mostly in the automotive dealership industry all his life, managing service departments for various dealers in California.

Bart loved NASCAR, drag racing and football. On any given Sunday, you would find him enjoying one of these. Bart built and raced his own hot-rod dragsters as well as motorcycles; and was a "Chevy man" to the bone. Bart was an artist, musician and animal lover.

Bart always had a fun and interesting perspective on things of life. Regarding life, he said many times, "It's the strangest thing I've ever done." He is survived by his wife, Denise Peery; son ("of buffalo") Robert Starr; daughter Debra Starr; stepdaughters Gloria Wright and Michelle Schwery; grandchildren Austin and Ashlea Wright, Kyle and Zachary Pierson, and Sophia and Nathaniel Schwery; along with the many friends he made along the way.

And finally, as Bart always said, "In the end, things will be alright. If things are not alright, it is not yet the end!" Bart was loved and will be greatly missed by so many
