– Barbara Joan Foreman 79, of Lolo, passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at Community Medical Center in Missoula of natural causes.
Barbara was born Jan. 9, 1937, the first of eight children, in Bozeman to Simon and Velna McKay. Barbara graduated from Gallatin High School in 1956 while working part time at JC Penney's. She married Robert Foreman on June 10, 1956, at Lone Mountain Chapel in Gallatin Canyon. Barb and Bob were one of the first couples to be married at this location.
On Jan. 18, 1957, they celebrated the birth of their first and only son, Kirk. Barbara worked for Bonanza 88 stores in Longview, Washington, Seattle and Missoula. Bob and Barb lived in Missoula, then moved to Lolo and owned the Hayloft Saloon for a short time before purchasing the Lumber Jack Saloon, where the fun continued prior to settling in Fish Creek. Barb worked for Lolo Hot Springs while living in Fish Creek and snowmobiled to work and back every day, which is a testament to her grit as a strong Montana woman.
During the summer months, she worked for the Forest Service at the Lolo Pass Visitors Center. Barbara enjoyed the outdoors, horseback riding, spending time with friends, and hosted the annual Fish Creek Horseshoe Tournaments for many years. Barb loved to play pinochle and was a huge Grizzly football fan.
Bob and Barb moved to Stevensville to retire until the death of "Bobby Chicken Hawk" in September of 2010. Barb then moved to Lolo, finding the house of her dreams where she was currently residing.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother Velna, father Simon, sister Ruthie and brother-in-law Jack Willett.
Barb is survived by her son Kirk, daughter-in-law Kim, granddaughter Kortney, sister Joyce Willett, sister Susan (Dale) Rambur, and brothers Don (Nona), Dick (Charlotte), Bruce (Rena) and David (Vivian) McKay.
We invite you to join us for a celebration of Barbara's life at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Garden City Funeral Home, 1705 W. Broadway, with a reception immediately following at the Broadway Inn.
