Obituary for Artie Johnson

On Jan. 19, 1945, the world became a better place when Arthur Eugene “Artie” Johnson was born to Elmer and Geraldine in Craigmont, Idaho. Growing up on a farm instilled a work ethic in him at a very early age that would last a lifetime. Artie had grown up to be a hard-working, dedicated, honest, respectful and respected man to everyone he met and any job he had. Hauling logs was his passion. With over 50 years of truck driving he became the mentor to many and was probably the topic of many of stories.

On Sept. 18, 1983, he married Cherie Johnson of Superior, and became a father to Misti Audam. Artie was well known throughout the community and people knew that they could count on him for any kind of help that they may need. Working as hard as he always did, he still made the time to have fun. Camping, road trips, watching baseball, and “tinkerin” in his shop where he could build just about anything you can imagine.

Artie was a strong and determined man who put up a very hard fight going into his fifth year of battling cancer. He made sure that he was going to meet his new granddaughter, Makelle Mae, before he let his body rest. Over the past couple of weeks being able to spend time with her, friends and family gave him some great laughs and some beautiful memories for the rest of us to cherish.

We all lost an amazing person on Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, when Artie lost his battle. He is survived by his wife, Cherie of almost 34 years; daughter Misti (Mickelly) Audam; sister Ginny (Larry) Agnew; brother Dave (Louise) Johnson, son Russell (Jamie) Johnson, daughter Katrina Johnson.

A graveside service will be held at Superior Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 2, at 4 p.m. with a reception at the Superior Senior Center, 611 Fifth Ave. E., immediately following.
