-Arthur Chester Gottfried, 96, was called to heaven on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Because of the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, Arthur is now beginning his eternal life in glory.
Art was born February 19, 1919 in Milwaukee, WI to Cornelius Conrad and Katherine (Sperling) Gottfried. When Art was 5 his family moved to Mt. Lake, MN where Art lived until moving to Missoula in 1967.
On October 24, 1941 he married Lucille Zink in Mt. Lake and they had two children together; daughter Patricia Ann and son Garry Arthur. As a young man he asked Jesus Christ to be his Lord and savior and he lived his life striving to please God. He joined the Gideons and was an active member for over 60 years. He was also a member of the Missoula Alliance Church.
Art was a man who accomplished much in his 96 years. His knowledge from reading and studying was amazing and his love for life and people reflected in everything he did. Because of ill health as a child he was not supposed to live to see his 30th birthday-yet this love of life carried him through and he was still on his own and going strong, living at the Grizzly Peak Retirement Home at the time of his death. Art had many jobs including owning and operating an auto body repair shop and laundromat in Mt. Lake and selling investments. He loved traveling and meeting people and spent many winters in Arizona with Lucy in their motor home. He loved studying his Bible, walking in the desert, writing poems and doing puzzles.
Art is survived by his son Garry and wife Nancy of Victor, MT; three grandchildren Vangie (Chris) Bonser of Victor, Carmen (Dan) Tomlinson of Louisville, KY and Wendy Gottfried of Greenville, SC and one great grandson, Shevy. Art was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters Clara and Verna, his wife of 66 years Lucille and his daughter Patricia.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Missoula Alliance Church with Pastor Jeff Valentine officiating. Inurnment of his ashes will take place in Mt. Lake, MN at a later date. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Gideons International or an organization of your choice.
