Obituary for Arthur LeRoy "Nubs" Crawford

Arthur LeRoy Crawford, 67, of Missoula, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at home, surrounded by his loved ones.

Art was born in Ephrata, Wash., on Aug. 15, 1947, but made his way to Montana as soon as he was able. His family established home in Superior, and Crawford Logging was created shortly after. Art graduated from Superior High School in 1966 and worked as a logger until leaving for college.

He soon found his desire to serve his country was strong. He joined the Navy and served from 1968 to 1972, becoming an airedale on the deck of the USS America off the coast of Vietnam. Upon his return, he embraced his life as a Montanan and spent much of his free time hunting and fishing. Art loved the Montana outdoors.

When he returned home, he met his wife Jeanne and they were married Nov. 12, 1976. Together they raised two boys and a girl. They were married for more than 30 years when Jeanne passed away last December. Today they are together again, dancing!

For the past few weeks, Art was in the care of hospice and many family members. We especially want to thank Leroy Davis and Helen Steiger for going above and beyond in caring for Art during this time.

Art was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Crawford; mother and father, Alonzo "Big A" and Ruby Marie "Toad" Crawford; his son, Anthony; and sister-in-law, Joyce Smith. He is survived by sons, Michael and family of Missoula and Richard and family of Washington; daughter, Shawna Rae and family of Utah; brother, Alonzo of Nevada; and other relatives, Jim Westbrook and family of Missoula, Helen Steiger and family of Stevensville, Della Davis and family of Missoula, Adonna Martinez and family of Texas, Debbie Hosfeld of California, Mary Heinze of Washington and Ricky Hosfeld of Texas.

In late June, there will be a military interment at Superior Cemetery for Art
