Alvina A. Chaffin, 93, of Missoula, passed away at her home Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015. She was born in Bentley, North Dakota, a daughter of Alfred and Amelia Schweitz.
She attended school in Bentley and in Lemon, South Dakota, before moving with her family to Hamilton. She met the love of her life, James Eddie Chaffin, in Hamilton and they were married Sept. 17, 1942. The couple moved to Missoula, where Eddie was stationed in the U.S. armed services. Alvina was very active and loved gardening, doing crocheting, was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and canasta club, and was a NASCAR enthusiast.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie in 2000; two brothers; two sisters; and her beloved grandson, Brent Jones in 1981. She is now survived by her son, James Chaffin (Nancy) of Missoula; daughter, Bev Jones (Ron) of Frenchtown; one sister, Rose Martsalf of Lodi, California; three grandsons, Lance Jones of West Hollywood, California, Chong Jones of Seattle and James Chaffin of Missoula; and extremely close friend of the family, Moua Su Bliaya.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory. A reception will follow the services in the funeral home's Community Room. Private family burial will follow the reception at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
