Obituary for Allyson Jean Baldwin

Allyson Jean Baldwin, 60, of Missoula, passed away March 9th, 2013 at St. Patrick Hospital, of natural causes.
She was born on July 22nd, 1952, near Custer, South Dakota to Owen and Ebba Baldwin. She was the youngest of three girls and spent her childhood in South Dakota before her parents relocated to Billings, Montana. As a young girl, she spent summers competing in swim team before joining the cheerleading squad at Billings Senior High School. After graduating high school she married and had three boys; Jeremy, Jake and Jesse—the last being born the same year the family relocated to Missoula in 1977.
She always looked to take advantage of the best opportunities for her family and, shortly after relocating to Helena in 1987; she began her full-time independent support of them by holding positions from clerical and secretarial to high-level assistant. The bulk of her professional working life was in the Accounts Receivable and Inside Sales departments at a commercial building supply business.
She was very motivated to succeed professionally and personally and while working full-time she managed the general contracting roles for three of her personal home builds as well as numerous remodels and smaller projects. Her real estate investments had her and her family moving often as well with her most recent relocation to Missoula, to be closer to her three sons, in 1996.
She made raising her boys her hobby, job and life, but still enjoyed herself and her friends along the way. Schoolwork, baseball, wrestling, soccer, football, hunter's education, fishing, motorcycle racing and more kept her in full-time mom mode with little time for socializing. Still, she always found genuine groups of friends to laugh with and support her when she needed them. Often, she was the one supporting them.
She fully immersed herself in numerous passionate activities in her life—from construction projects and repurposing furniture to functional crafts and antiquing—but none had the staying power as her quilting and sewing. Quilting in particular provided her with the magic combination of comfortable socializing and powerful creation. From this activity she found maximum love and immense satisfaction for completing amazing projects.
She was a member of the Missoula Quilters Guild for 15 years as well as a two-term president. Recently, she was honored as the Featured Quilter of the Missoula Quilt Show. Quilting provided an outlet for her to expel love and compassion towards others. Numerous Angel quilts have her hand in them—quilts designed to give support and love in someone's most demanding times of need.
Traveling was a privilege and she used it to spend special time with those who she loved most. In 2012 she took her third trip to New York City—this time for her niece's wedding, the two prior for visits and trips with friends and family. Other trips range from Texas to Canada and California.
A loving mother and grandmother, she always put her family first. Nothing could come close to her grandchildren in priority and she'd drop anything to see them if only for a meal or a hug. She loved decorating her house in photos of her family.
Survivors include her son, Jake Ziegler, Helena, and his wife Candace and their children Dawson and Carli; her son Jesse Ziegler, Idaho Falls and his fiancé Jessica White; two sisters, Bridt Baldwin, Missoula, and Diana Baldwin, Utah; her niece Kimberly Jones Bendana, her husband Ray and their son Nicholas, Queens, New York; her nephew Brian Jones and his wife Sandy and their daughter Samantha.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Ebba Baldwin, Billings; her son, Jeremy Ziegler, Missoula.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 15th at 3 pm at Garden City Funeral Home in Missoula. There will be a private family interment at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Missoula Saturday.
