Allen Ray Phillips, 82, went home to be with His Lord and Savior on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013. He passed away in his home of natural causes and was surrounded by his family. Allen was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Havre.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Nell Phillips, and a sister, Jean Lathrop. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly, and children Jolene and Bob Small, Rich and Sherry Phillips, Brad and Cindi Phillips, and Susan and Kevin Grady; two sisters, Helen Stangl and Nancy Moore; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Allen was 17 when he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served with pride during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in September 1952. After living in San Jose, Calif., Allen moved to Missoula and worked as a ranch hand in Helmville. During this time, Allen met Beverly Stiner and they were married on Sept. 15, 1956. Allen worked as a baker for Eddy's Bakery in Missoula until they closed the doors in 1984. Allen then worked for Walmans Optical until his retirement. Allen enjoyed fishing, hunting, square dancing and gardening in his spare time.
In remembrance of Allen, a viewing will be held Friday, Nov. 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be held at Bethel Community Church, 1601 S. Sixth St. W. at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 with a reception to follow at the church. The family suggests a donation to your favorite charity in place of flowers.
