Obituary for Alberta Ruth Hanlan

Alberta Ruth Hanlan (Bertie), 83, of Missoula passed away April 28, 2014 at her home.

Once upon a time a little girl was born May 17, 1930 in Gillette, Wyoming to Edward and Edith Hanlan. Her name was Alberta Ruth Hanlan (Bert). She had 3 brothers, Floyd, Ray and Everett along with one sister Viola. She lived south of Gillette 45 miles on a farm.

She rode a horse to school 5 miles; it was a one room school. She graduated from 8th grade at Soda Wells School.

Her parents and sister moved to Prairie Grove Arkansas where she graduated from high school. She milked cows night and morning along with working in two tomato factories.

She came back with her youngest brother Ray to Gillette, Wyoming on his way to Alaska, serving in the army.

She worked on a ranch all summer haying and gathering cows, then returned to Fayetteville, Arkansas where she got a job in CA Swansons and Son's Chicken packing Company.

She moved with her parents to Montana on 3 mile Road. There she worked on 2 ranches. Following this, she worked in Des Moines, Iowa in a box factory for 75 cents an hour. When the minimum wage rose to $1.00 he closed the factory.

She then moved to Detroit and worked in a 650 bed hospital for 2 years after receiving her L.P.N in Montana. She moved back to Montana working in the old Community Hospital for 9 years. Working at intermountain Lumber in the summer.

She then worked at St. Pat for 28 years on the mental health unit and retired in 1995.

She loved all animals, sewing, and wood carving working year round.

She is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Edith; sister Viola and brother Floyd.

Survived by her nieces Evelyn Kraft and husband Danny of Otter, Montana and Pat Hanlan of Broadus, MT; brothers Everett Hanlan and his wife Emerine of Broadus, MT and Ray Hanlan of Missoula; several cousins in the US and Canada; and her Life Partner, Johnney.

No services are planned. Cremation has taken place under the care of Cremation and Burial Society of the Rockies.
