MISSOULA - Our brother, Albert Roger Amaya of Anaconda, passed away January. 21, 2009, at the Village Health Center in Missoula.
Albert was born March 31, 1933, to Nora May Lande Amaya Vargas and Frank Amaya of Anaconda.
Albert never had a formal education like most people because he was developmentally challenged, but you would never know it. He did not let that hinder him from learning to read and write and manage his own checking and savings accounts. He was always employed as a handyman, painting the interior and exterior of homes, working as a dishwasher, or assisting with home improvements. Albert would do whatever it took to make his own living, depending on no one for assistance.
Albert loved to travel and did his share of traveling in Montana, California and Idaho. California was his favorite place to visit and live. He lived for several years in Visalia and Burbank, Calif., before he returned home to Montana to live in Missoula, where he resided until his death. Albert lived in Missoula for more than 20 years.
Albert was never married, but had several friends and lots of relatives to keep him active. He loved his family and friends and always remembered them with cards for their birthdays or weddings, never forgetting to send along a gift. He loved to give and buy things for his family and friends. Albert was a kind and generous man, who brought so much happiness and smiles to those who knew and loved him.
Albert was very artistic, and liked to paint and build things, taking his time to make them as perfect as he could. This brought him so much happiness and helped him to enjoy any free time he might have had after he retired from his many jobs. He maintained his own home and kept it very neat and tidy, that was just the kind of person he was.
Albert is survived by his brothers, Emery Amaya and his wife Rose, and Thomas Amaya and his wife Kathy; his sisters, Virginia Allen and her husband Dallas, and Francine Amaya; and Kathy Warne. Albert has several nieces and nephews, and in many great-nieces and great-nephews as well.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Amaya; mother, Nora May Lande Amaya Vargas; his stepfather, Ysidro Vargas; brothers, Eugene Amaya and Rupert Amaya, and a nephew, Russell Lee Allen.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, in Saint Anthony’s in Missoula. A luncheon will follow. Albert’s remains will be buried in the Amaya plot in Anaconda.
Arrangements have been made by the Garden City Funeral Home in Missoula, and Longfellow’s Funeral Home in Anaconda.
