MISSOULA – Aera Lee Pool, known to family and friends as "Pat," passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at the age of 89 from complications from a compressed back fracture. She was born on May 31, 1923, to George N. Patton and Virgie Gertrude Powers and raised in Chickasha, Okla. Pat married Walter Pool Sr. on April 6, 1943, and raised five children in Spokane, Wash. She was a successful owner and operator of Pat's Last Chance Saloon in Elliston and then Pat's Place in Garrison. Pat even became an unofficial mascot to the Missoula Maggots rugby team when they were passing through on road trips.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tom Lehman of Missoula; son Walter Pool Jr. of Drummond; grandchildren, Sandi Sandry (Mike), Kim Herzog (Courtney), Stacie Cline (Travis), Schanda Stokes (Scott), Paulo Pool (Jana), Jennee Pool; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pat was a wonderful and loving parent to her children. She supported her family in every endeavor – a Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout den mother, PTA and all the organizations of raising an active family.
Pat enjoyed attending grandchildren events, playing Bunko, watching Children's Theatre performances, listening to book tapes, and spending time with family and friends. She was caretaker to many friends over the years, served Meals on Wheels in Missoula, and supported everyone around her. She will be remembered by her wonderful stories, smile, wit, laughter, and big heart.
She will be truly missed by everyone who knew her as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend.
A celebration reception of Pat's life will be held at Garden City Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 2.
